I need help on re-configuring disks for a 2300 & FC10. Please review the customer's request. We will be getting additional disks. I'm asked to reconfigure the whole filesystem by creating a new vg01 and vg02,copy data from the old vg01 and vg02 and add two new volume groups vg03 and vg04. I do not know a simple way to do this and am asking for assistance. Nor have I worked with a FC10 array before. I do not know how to configure 0+1=stripped and mirrored. Can anyone help? Customer's request follows:
The basic plan for the new disk drives on abhuxd01:
- vg01 = 5 (10) x 18 GB = 90 GB (0+1=striped and mirrored)
- vg02 = 2 (4) x 72 GB = 144 GB (0+1=striped and mirrored)
- vg03 = 4 (4) x 18 GB = 72 GB (neither striped NOR mirrored)
- vg04 = 1 (1) x 18 GB = 18 GB (neither striped NOR mirrored)
The addition of the four 72 GB drives to the 2300 integrated disk system will fill all the available slots; the FC10 will still have four slots available.
We need to create the following minimum file systems mirrored in case of a disaster. It will also house one of our test databases: This is the current filesystem layout?
- /archive 10 GB on vg02
- /backup 20 GB on vg01
- /u01 - 12 GB on vg01
- /u02 - 1 GB on vg02
- /u03 - 50 GB on vg01
- /u04 - 50 GB on vg02
total = 143 GB = 82 GB on vg01 + 61 GB on vg02

Solution
Hi,
2300 and FC10 is JBOD disk system but "(0+1=striped and mirrored)" normally apply to RAID systems. Do you have an RAID controller connected to the disk systems ? How to configure RAID sets and LUNs is propritary for each RAID controller, it is not possible to give general assistance.
If you plan to completly redesign the volumegroups, the perhaps easisst is to first backup data to tape and restore from tape after reconfiguration. In any case you should have a good backup of the data before anything is changed.
