Recovery from Ignite-UX tape - Recovery Main Menu missing!

Hello

I'm testing a recovery procedure for an HP 9000 rp2405 system running HP-UX 11i v.1. The system has a lot of patch bundles and custom configuration and would take a long time to recover from the original media. I plan to recover from an Ignite-UX tape created using "make_tape_recovery" to speed up the process by allowing me to install a copy of our configured system.

The problem is that when I boot from the tape and select "Run a Recovery Shell" from the first menu and confirm that I don't want to start networking, the system loads an environment and then drops me into a shell prompt. I was expecting it to go to the "System Recovery Main Menu" where I could select "Recover and unbootable HP-UX system".

I created the Ignite-UX tape as follows:

/opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery

I added no arguments.

Looking in software manager the Ignite-UX revision is B.5.1.33.

Any suggestions as to why this is happeneing?

Thanks in advance
Martin

You need to select Install an OS - not Run a recovery shell............

Re: Recovery from Ignite-UX tape - Recovery Main Menu missing!

Thank-you for your response.

I want to get to the Recovery Main Menu so that I have the option to repair certain parts of the boot process without necessarily completely reinstalling. The menu gives options for selectively restoring critical files, which would be useful in some failure scenarios.

I expect all of this is possible to do manually from the basic shell prompt but I don't see any instructions for this in the documentation.

The HP-UX documentation "System Recovery" chapter is specific about how this should work so either I'm doing something wrong or there is a problem with the tape produced by "make_tape_recovery".
