Refresh ioscan without rebooting.

How can I refresh my "ioscan -fnC disk" without rebooting? After certain LUN's are no longer available, I don't want them to show up anymore when I run the ioscan. Rebooting does the trick but I don't want to keep doing that. Is this possible with little effort?

Thanks

Re: Refresh ioscan without rebooting.

If you are sure those devices marked as "No_HW" are no longer needed. Then run rmsf -H will remove those devices and their device files without reboot your server.

Read manpage for rmsf, there are several options you can use.

Re: Refresh ioscan without rebooting.

Hi,

you should add the "-k" option to rmsf.
Tis will remove the information from the kernel - the NO_HW will disappear.

Hope this helps!

Re: Refresh ioscan without rebooting.

Simple running "ioscan" without any arguments will do the trick (no need to reboot). This forces the binding of the device drivers to the actual devices. If the LUNs are no longer visible to the host then this binding will not take place and the state of the device(s) will reflect "NO_HW" viz.,

Re: Refresh ioscan without rebooting.

Hi Gene,

If you have removed your luns presented to the host, use "rmsf" commands to remove the device files. Make sure that you have removed the masking information for those deviecs aswell.

Run ioscan and check for the removed devices
