Regarding cdcwatch process

Hello Techies,

Does anyone know what the process cdcwatch is for ???? I can see this process consuming very high CPU resources on my HP-UX server but I do not know exactly what this process is for ?

Thanks * regards,

Re: Regarding cdcwatch process

I don't know what is cdcwatch. But you can use
# ps -eaf | grep -i cdcwatch
to find where it is running from, then cd to that place, you might find some info or doc about cdcwatch.

Re: Regarding cdcwatch process

I never heard of it. It is not on any of my systems. It sounds like a home-grown shell script that monitors something (the "watch" in cdcwatch).

However, you can still run some commands to try to find out what it is.

The command: ps -ef | grep cdcwatch
Could tell you id of the parent process that called it. For example, the parent of process 5088 is pid number 6375.
UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME COMMAND
userX 5088 6375 0 16:01:33 ? 0:00 sleep 300

Then run ps -fp on the parent process
command: ps -fp 6375
UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME COMMAND
userX 6375 1 0 Feb 22 ? 0:04 /bin/ksh ./demon5.sh

You could get information on the user too.
finger userX

You can try to see if it is in the system messages:
dmesg | grep cdcwatch

If you can afford the performance hit, you could try to find this file cdcwatch.
find / -name cdcwatch ls -ld {} \+

Perhaps it was started when the system started?
grep cdcwatch /var/adm/syslog/syslog.log

Or it is a parameter set during a reboot.
grep -il cdcwatch /etc/rc.config.d/*

Assuming you find this cdwatch file, you might be able to find all processes that are using it.
fuser /a/directory/path/cdcwatch

This would process a list of process id's that use that file.

These just guesses to figure out what's going on.
