Regarding ntpq command output on HP-UX

Hi,
When we execute ntpq -n -p command on a server it shows the NTP servers with which the time gets synchrnized.
* in the output signifies that the time is being with that NTP server or synchronization has been done.
Our problem is in the output we are getting
#
in the man we checked it says
"selected for synchronization,but distance exceeds maximum" what it means exactly.
Will the time will be synchronized with respect to that # server.
How to get rid of this # symbol in the output.
Kindly clarify our doubts.

I think that the number of hops to the selected server is too high, use traceroute to verify the path to the host. Try choosing another NTP server.

Sorry, distance is not the number of hops to the server, but the number of hops to reach a primary time server, see:
