Re: Regarding patch installation...

The most likely explanation is that that particular tar file is corrupt. Normally, I would say that you should make sure that binary transfer is specified at every step along the way but because you sucessfully un'tarred many files, this appears to simply be a corrupt download. Retry the download. I also see you are running bash as root; I would try running it under the POSIX shell though I doubt this is your problem.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Hi Srinu,

Check if you have sufficient space in /tmp to install patch..it can be one of the possible cause of this issue.

Re: Regarding patch installation...

The error generated has nothing to do with disk space. It is, as Clay said, indicative of a bad download.

I prefer downloading the patch files as a gzip archive. This allows a somewhat smaller download. Then, once they are on the HP-UX machine you can do:

# gzcat .gz | tar -xvf -

to extract them from the archive.

Re: Regarding patch installation...

It may have been a truncated download due to a failure of insufficient space on the disk to which it was saved origonally. Just a thought.

Hi,

I agree with Clay. This sounds like a corrupt download. Did you download from the HTTP site or did you downoad directly from ftp itrc.hp.com. Sometimes I would have to try two times before it downloaded correctly.
