Remote backup on tape device

[HP-UX 11.31]

Hi,

I have three HP unix servers (11.31). I want to take tar backup remotely on tape drive. I have one tape drive only and it is connected with one server.

Kindly provide the solution with commands.

I tried "tar with SSH" but unable to take backup.

Share the directory that you want to take back up(NFS).

NFS mount the directory to the system where your tape is attached( say server B)

Take backup from server B

#tar -cvf < directory name >

Dear HPUX,

try to make an script in the local server.

and run the script from the remote machine.

That is better for every one.

For one example,

I'm in Tezpur university, i've One RHEL 5 as a proxy server with squid. For some peoples internet connection required for some time. And for some other peoples, it requies at some time.Some time, requied to stop.

For that, I've made a script to copy the configuration files depending upon the cron.

like that u just make a script.

You could use dd(1) to write /dev/zero onto the tape but it may not be secure enough.
There are other threads about degaussing and others about physical destruction.
