SolutionHow was it installed? If it was via swinstall, you need to use swremove. If it was any other method, you should be able to remove the target install directory (i.e. rm -rf /opt/samba). Also check for any startup/shutdown scripts and links and clean those up as well.

Re: removing Samba
run /usr/sbin/swlist if you see samba or CIFS then use swremove to remove them (cifs is hp's samba).
If someone has install samba by compiling then find out where it is.
Most problable it is in /opt/samba or /usr/local/samba.
Remove that directory. Remove startup script from /sbin/init.d/

Re: removing Samba
You don't have to reboot after removing Samba.

Re: removing Samba
You don't have to reboot in anycase.
Just kill any smb or nmb process.

Re: removing Samba
As root:
/sbin/init.d/samba stop
[425#] swlist -l product | grep CIFS
CIFS-Client A.01.08 HP CIFS/9000 Client
CIFS-Development A.01.09.02 CIFS/9000 server source code files
CIFS-Server A.01.09.02 CIFS/9000 (Samba) File and Print Services
swremove these products and you're done.
It removes the startup files and such itself.
