Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
This morning looks like last November. I am getting SSI errors on about 50% of my pokes. Screens are loading with large fonts and without pictures and icons. Something has gone very wrong.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
But what I have noticed over the last couple days is the problem with the SEARCH. Seems Community Forums access is going up and down. Sometimes I get it...and others I don't. At least it's not a total loss I can still get to Tech Docs and Manuals - but I really miss it when I know the exact answer I want I saw in the Forums, and I then have to wait & keep retrying.
Hey, just call it job security....always something to fix !!
Thanks bunches,
/rcw

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
Maybe searching is slowing down the forums when it works.
Is anyone looking at any capacity issues? Disk, memory, cpu, network?

Regarding Printing, do you think it's possible to make a real printer friendly .
I get some text on one page and the other half on the top of the other page.. even though I follow the instructions.
Thanks,
Bill

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
Starting about 1100 CST, I was unable to connect. I got 404's, server not found, etc.
Starting around 1400 CST, I was getting 10 to 20 minute response to paint a screen.
At 15:30 it got down to 2 to 5 minute response to paint a screen and I was able to fill out my points assignments, assigning 4 sets of points took 20 minutes.
If it stays this bad, it is a painful task to perform.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
I am getting 8 to 12 second response, which is unheard of, and almost up to the level that is needed (Bolene rule of computing #1 -> A person should not have to wait on a computer for an answer, the response should be almost immediate). I normally was getting 15 to 20 second response except for last Friday afternoon.
Wondering what the heck has changed?

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
Getting quite a few 404 Errors today. No particular place, just generally. Always a reload, sometime two, fixes it and the page loads fine. These are usually network/timing related, cant you simply increase the timeout values ??

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
The reason the forums do this is because some of the responses contain a link to a web page, or another response or something. It is the URL that is the culprit. Because the URLs are all one line with no spaces, they can't be wrapped to a reasonable line width, thus one huge long line that affects all posts to that particular question.
I agree that it can make reading the responses cumbersome, especially if the URL is extra long. I don't see how HP could get around that problem though.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
thanks again to your contribution. I am posting this message to confirm again that all information you submit is taken into account in order to build forums answering your needs.
I am grateful to all of you for having provided such valuable information, especially now that we are sometimes experiencing hard times with performance issues (SSI and http 404 errors).
Thanks in advance for keeping on posting new issues using this same thread.
Best regards,
Laurent

But anyways, I was wondering if there could be a desktop interface for the forums, which would enable the users to use either a mail or news client to browse through the messages rather than having to login to this website.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today (3/29/01 @ 7:00 am CST) performance has been TERRIBLE. I have been experiencing numerous errors. My connection has timed out, I have been told my connection is refused, and I have also recevied the message "10022 Invalid Argument". Once I finally get to the forum, I have even had a difficult time advancing to the next page. Sometimes my ITRC Forum e-mail links work and sometimes they do not. Just getting to this reply screen has been a real challenge. I was told the page could not be found. Once I keyed in my password, I was returned to the "home page". I had to naviagte to the forum page all over again.

-rendering is painfully slow in Nutscape 4.73. Rendering is fine in Exploder. It's probably a table design issue (Nutscape has problems rendering complex tables).
-periodic unavailability (for instance this morning the site wouldn't come up at all).

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
The appears to have issues with URL links. Please look what happened to my posting:
http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,1150,0x81c153921f1ad5118fef0090279cd0f9,00.html
Can you correct it for me? I still want responses to my issues which are not resolved yet. Unless really necessary, I will not duplicate my post into another separate one.
And btw, like that rest, I am facing a very slow response with multiple SSI errors and "Page not found" errors.
Are there seriously no load-balancing support for Vignette Storyserver, looking at how expensive the software actually costs?
In Singapore, I face the worse lags between 5 to 6 pm and for yesterday 10 to 11 pm.
TIA. Regards.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
For the last two days...I have been getting an inordinate amount of 404 errors....it takes 3-5 attempts to get the post to come up. I've noticed definite slowdowns in the response at certain times...and had a few 'host not responding' in the early am when I first went to login.
Thanks,
Rita

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
I echo Rita's comments today. The last two days have been downright pitiful. Response time is terrible and I've gotten many "page not found" errors when I reply to a post. Interestingly, my reply is honored, though.
Clearly the frustration level is rising as evidenced from the commentary the during the last week. I regret to say that we have had ongoing problems of one sort or another since last November; the likes of which were never apparent before then (with the "old" Forum).
Regards!

Tried 4 times, the first 3 times using refresh button while the last time using the back button and re-clicking on the link. All to no avail.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
I think the problems I see are in three classes.
The first, as others mention, is all the dead links that yield only 404 errors.
The second is the somewhat outrageous amount of data that is transmitted to see every reply or next page. I'm at 56K here, and it often takes thirty seconds to transfer well over 100K bytes, for what is often well under 1K of "real" data.
The third is that, at the moment, there looks to be a hole in the data on the forum where the entire day of April 1 was dropped. I've been looking to follow a thread I started, but it looks to be gone.
In closing, let me thank you and everyone involved for the effort and the concept. While fours hours of seraching the HP site did not reveal what the purpose of the "transfer of control" button or how to configure the web console of my A180, I was able to detect that HP views plugging an active LAN cable into the web console as cause to disable the serial port. This tidbit has helped me regain the command prompt, at long last.

Re: Report forums issues! [1/2]
My concern about lost posts was wrong. In fact, I was confused by the column shown as "date" in the forum. I thought this was the original post date. I now see that the view presented is sorted by "last comment or reply" date. Perhaps a different column header such as "Update" would be clear. Of course we realize that 3/30 is a date, and saying that 3/30 is a date only serves to antagonize the reader.
On another tack, as a new user, I can say that having a one or two line summary of each response presented would be superior, as would having the ability to reply to a reply. For example, when I viewed my own original comment, I would have liked to have associated this comment with that one, as I am trying to clarify the point I made earlier.
