Request for design enhancement input on firmware management

Dear Community Members

Our supportability engineers are designing new processes for updating firmware for systems, storage, networking and I/O cards. We are interested in understanding what firmware management features are important to you (our customers). We would like to get your opinion on installation processes, intelligent software tools for managing firmware, and general information about the current firmware management and update processes.

If you are interested, please go to the following URL and complete the web-based survey.

http://docs.hp.com/survey/customer_survey_on_firmware.html

Once you have submitted the survey, please come back to this thread and reply that you have completed the web-based questionnaire.

With your input, we can plan to greatly enhance the firmware update process for HP customers like you.

Thanks! We look forward to your input...

Re: Request for design enhancement input on firmware management

My only grievance about the PDC firmware is for the K-class etc. Wish we can get them through patches.

Re: Request for design enhancement input on firmware management

Would be nice if there were a little command to display PDC info.

I know you can do it with stm or xstm and whatnot, but its not straightforward.

You also need to get some of the basics integrated into SysAdmin I or SysAdmin II classes. Systems administrators should not go through over $5,000 in training and come out of it not knowing a thing about PDC.(raises his hand, yes me.). I literally learned it last week with support, just making sure my rp5450 boxes are up to date while trying to nail down an annoying Ignite issue.

Filling out survey now.

Re: Request for design enhancement input on firmware management

My information has been submitted. I would love to have OpenView handle firmware on a largescale. An extension to Sam on the local system for handling firmware would be ideal for smaller sites.

Re: Request for design enhancement input on firmware management

Let me manage this! I'm responsible for it: I'm the one who will get my butt chewed if something goes wrong, so let me manage the whole process, beginning to end. I'll have to fix it if anything goes wrong. This IS NOT a PC--I am a professional (now certified) syadmin--I don't want anyone or anything managing my systems for me. I've been doing this a long time, and I sure as hell know my systems better than anyone at HP or a 3rd party does.

I completed the survey.....

Re: Request for design enhancement input on firmware management

All done. On the whole, I find firmware upgrades as they now exist quite easy. I've done many, many of these on HP servers and workstations and various drive arrays and have never had a failure.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

It's done,
and the most important, no reboot of server with firmware upgrade would be the best !!!
