resolv.conf

hi guys...

I just wanna know that if I put another nameserver entry in my resolv.conf file, do I have to reboot the system, or resolv.conf is an ordinary text file that when a request is made is going to look in the file....

Thanks

Re: resolv.conf

Hi Jonathan,

No reboot is needed. However, currently running process are not assured to use the new nameserver but any new processes will.

Re: resolv.conf

Hi Jonathan:

No reboot is necessary. That's one of the nice things!

Re: resolv.conf

Hi Jonathan,

The only think I know of that requires a reboot is kernel changes. Other changes can be done with a simple restart of the service. However, the modification to the resolv.conf does not even require that.

Re: resolv.conf

Hi Jonathan,

you don't need to reboot the system for the entries in /etc/resolv.conf to come into effect. Do remeber that you can have a maximum of three entries for the nameserver. Once you save the file and exit, it is into effect.

Hope this helps.
