Restrict user to send mail

I have configure sendmail in my hp-ux box. Now every OS user can send mail.

I want to restrict some OS user to send mail.

How can i do this?

Re: Restrict user to send mail

1. Open /etc/mail/access file and add username/hostname to deny the user.
2. Restart sendmail.

Re: Restrict user to send mail

as there is no access file in /etc/mail then should I only create this file and restart sendmail?

See the following document:

Re: Restrict user to send mail

Jeeshan,
1.Touch /etc/mail/access
2.Add the mail details inside the file like logesh@.com REJECT (or) 192.168.202 REJECT

You can also keep log of the Relay/Reject requests by creating .db file in the same location.

Re: Restrict user to send mail

Shalom,

Also, don't run the sendmail daemon.

There is no need to run it unless you are receiving INBOUND mail.

You should to use the m4 utility to create a new sendmail.cf file after making changes to the access file and the access.db

These changes will be implemented immediately, but there is benefit to generating a new file.

@SEP:
Actually I have to restrict some UNIX user to send mail but allowed users will send mail as usual.

Re: Restrict user to send mail

Hello,

You could use procmail to restrict some OS user(s) to send mail. This is a very powerfull package and it is a must for any SMTP server.

Check this page for documentation/samples:

http://www.procmail.org/

You can also download pre-compiled binaries from the porting page:

http://hpux.connect.org.uk/hppd/hpux/Networking/Mail/procmail-3.22/
