RP 2430

I have setup a new RP 2430 box and I am having problems with remote locations utilizing Netopia R5300 routers on a T1 line getting telnet disconnected randomly anywhere from 30 seconds to 10 minutes. This does not happen on the local network. Any ideas?

Re: RP 2430

Hi Dee,

First thing I'd do is turn up logging on inetd - run

inetd -l

Then if necessary you can look at network performance & stats with netstat -s & lanadmin for a look at what's going on at the network level.

Re: RP 2430

Idea 1:
A machine is up somewhere on your network with the same IP address. Your symptoms will be caused by that.

Idea 2: lanadmin -x 0

replace 0 with the actual number of the NIC.

If you are not getting the connection speed you expect and you are 100 BaseT you may need to hardcode your speedn into the file /etc/rc.config.d/hpbtlanconf

Attaching an example.

Re: RP 2430

Idea 3. Your T1 lines are misconfigured and are generating so many errors that they reset. Start a ping at the same time as a telnet. Does the ping keep working when the telnet drops?

Idea 4. You have a firewall which hates to see an idle connection and is dropping them for you.

Idea 5. Heavy traffic on the T1 is hogging the pipe causing your connection to time out. Check the same as 3.

Re: RP 2430

Thanks for all the ideas. It looks to be a router hardware issue.
