rx4640 SAN boot isse
Hi,
W e facing some issues for a rx4640 server, which is booting from SAN. It was working fine till last day and now it hung and I reboted the server. After reboot the it was not coming up normal. It found the boot path and strting the boot process but the it is dead slow and throwing some I/O errors.
After removing one FC connection it found booting normal. Replaced the susceptive FC HBA and upgraded the firmware of the new HBA to the latest and the same problem is repeating while connecting both FC cables.
Server Model: rx4640
OS HP-UX 11.31 with March 2011 patches.

Re: rx4640 SAN boot isse
Hi,
check the SAN switches from your system to the storage for errors on that port that is connected to the problem causing hba, try to exchange the SFP and/or the cable.
If the port/connection is not completly dead and cause a lot of errors your performance will slow down as described.
hth,
Stephan

Hi,
We have checked this by using different port & fiber cable.

And what was the result?
If you replaced the HBA already it could be only the switches, cables and/or SFP's - did you cross check with the working HBA?

Re: rx4640 SAN boot isse
I would check to see if there have been changes to the SAN. If you have changed nothing the suspect is SAN and SAN switch port configuration.
Your LUN could have been stepped on by storage or inadvertently presented to another system.
