SAM & modify user password

Good Morning all.

While using SAM to modify a user password I am not getting the correct GUI. When I click modify user password it just opens a terminal window. Please Help. Thanks in advance.

Re: SAM & modify user password

Hello,

If you choose the modify users password option, it will open a window in which you will have to create a new password for the user. If you do not want to do this, you need to choose the "reset user password" option. This will generate a temporary password that the user must change after he/she logs in the first time.

Hope this helps

Re: SAM & modify user password

Hi,
I'm not sure, but a voice in the backup of my head says that SAM splits a terminalwindows to exec the passwd. Isn't it its normal behaviour ?

Re: SAM & modify user password

I'm sorry. I should have been more specific. A terminal window opens up and just sits there, No promt no nothing.

Re: SAM & modify user password

Hello again,

What do your logs say (/var/sam/log/samlog, /var/adm/syslog, etc)

Do a pwck and see if there is any problems with the password file.

Are there any other bits you can provide?

Is there a huge load on the server?

Re: SAM & modify user password

Hi,

This behaviour of SAM is perfectly normal. In a Motif environment when SAM is running in GUI mode, selecting the Modify User's Passwd bring up an hpterm window with the passwd command running in it. At this time the user interface locks out user input and the hpterm disappears after the user has finished the command and hit return key.

For character terminals, the user interface is simply turned off and the command is executed in the current terminal. Here also, the UI is activated after the command is completed and the return key is entered.

Cheers,
Sanjay
