Re: SAM errors

Hi,

chekc your network name resolution. Do a "nslookup" and see if the hostname and ip is reolved properly.

nslookup
> server_name
> server_ip
> exit

Are there any error messages. Check your terminal settings.

Hope this helps.

Re: SAM errors

Hi,

What is your terminal type??
What kind of console you are using??
Set the term type.
Check whether it resolves it's own ip-address.
Check /etc/hosts file whether it has an entry for self

Re: SAM errors

Well, if I were the HP support person you talked to when you called for support, my first question would be what is your patch level. But since I am not...

Have you installed some patches recently? What is the O/S version? Have you looked at syslog to see if there are any messages? Do you have any core files that you can debug? What is your return code? Try bringing up the TUI vs. GUI see if there is a difference.

Just some thoughts to narrow down the infinite possibilites.

Re: SAM errors

Hi,

Check your DISPLAY variable.

#echo $DISPLAY

It should be your local system. Otherwise set it to nothing to get Terminal version of SAM

#export DISPLAY=""
#/usr/sbin/sam

Re: SAM errors

hi,

Check for any existing sessions of SAM:
ps -ef |grep -i sam
-> Kill the sessions , if any and if you are sure about it.

Try starting sam again:
#sam

Open another session and look at the log file
# tail -f /var/adm/sam/log

You can also try running SAM in the GUI mode
by exporting DISPLAY.

I thank you all for your suggestions, I rebooted the box and tried again. The SAm came up fine.
