SAM GUI

How can I use the SAM GUI? Do I have to have X Windows running? If so, how do I set that up? Sorry, I'm new to HPUX.

Re: SAM GUI

If you are not running an HP-UX workstation, then you'll need a PC where you have purchased and installed an Xwindows emulator (such as WRQ Refection/X or Himmingbird Exceed). Or you might try some of the freeware Xwindow emulators. Since the emulators are quite versatile, configuring them will require reading the documentation as each package is different.

Re: SAM GUI

If you want to use the X-interface for SAM, which I assume is what you mean by GUI, then yes you do need to have X-windows running.

How you set it up depends on where you want to log in from via X. If you have a PC, then you can use a product like Hummingbird Exceed or Reflection X (both products you have to buy) to access X-windows on your server.

That being said, you don't HAVE to use the X version of SAM. If you just ssh or telnet to the server and have an appropriate TERM type set, then you can just type 'sam' at the command line and have character version of sam come up.

Hummingbird Exceed info:

Google search for "x-window software":

Re: SAM GUI

Wow! Thanks for the quick responses. It seems all the training guides I've gotten a hold of illustrates using the GUI version. I thought that if it was straight forward thing to install I would give it a try.

I'll take a look at the recommendations.

thanks
