Solutionhttp://www.software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/displayProducts.pl?group_type=search&group_name=CIFS&search_free=1&search_trial=1&search_buy=1
the above are the results of a search on software.hp.com for CIFS server software. This is the HP equivalent of samba (well it is samba).
It works quite well.

Re: samba
Yes it is free. You can install it from your application CD's from HPUX 11 and up. It is called CIFS.
Should you don't have CD's you can get it here:
http://www.software.hp.com/cgi-bin/swdepot_parser.cgi/cgi/displayProducts.pl?group_type=search&group_name=CIFS&search_free=1&search_trial=1&search_buy=1
or from the HP Porting centre:

Re: samba
If you are using Windows as the server then probably you have to run some daemons on the HPUX side
THanks

Re: samba
i hope i understand you correctly:
You want to share some data from your Windows machine.
You want to access this share from your HP-UX box.
You are running HP-UX 10.20.
So you can use the smbclient which comes with samba to access this windowsshare. But this is not a tool like mount. Its more like a ftp client.
The good news is, that you don't have to install or configure anything else. Just install samba and use the client.
But the easier solution is to set up samba on your HP-UX box and share a directory from HP-UX to the Windows world. Any Windows PC will then be able to use this share like any other windows share. Let the windows user copy or move its files to the samba share and the use the data from the HP-UX side.
Thats what we do. The windows PC's store their data by default on the samba share.
Hope this helps
Regards Stefan

Re: samba
Under HP-UX 11.x you will find a tool called smbmount in your samba/CIFS package. This tool is able to mount a windows share like any other NFS. But thats not available on HP-UX 10.20.
And please assign points. You havn't assigned *any* points till now. Thats not very nice.

Re: samba
It's a kernel implementation, so installing the client and server part will reboot your system.
