SAP DB+CI ACTIVE - STANDBY CLUSTER WITHOUT SGeSAP?

We plan to run an Active (DB+CI) and Standby clsuter. I was proposed by the HP rep to use both SG ans SGeSAP. My question, for a 100% standby server, is SGeSAP a required addon? Can I acheive the cluster with just ServiceGuard? My HP rep tells me that this is NOT possible, and we MUST buy and implement SGeSAP. Can someone give some advice?

It would be very difficult to do this without SGeSAP.

We run the same configuration (DB/CI package) and we do use SGeSAP.

We also use hanfs for the transport directory.

Re: SAP DB+CI ACTIVE - STANDBY CLUSTER WITHOUT SGeSAP?

My issue is that we are running on Aplha/Tru64 clusters, and we do not use any kind of extensions. Is there some inherent limitations issues with HP-UX/ServiceGuard that REQUIRES SGeRAC? Does this also mean that IBM/AIX and SUN/Solaris has similar extensions for their SAP clustering?

So, if you are running on Tru64 - why not run Trucluster?

Also - maybe post in the Tru64 forums?

Do I understand yuo correctly that you currently have a Tru64 cluster, but in the future you will run an HP-ux cluster in addition?

Or perhaps you are migrating your current Tru64 solution to HP-ux?
Surely you know that the HP Tru64 website has a lot of info on transition?
http://h30097.www3.hp.com/transition/
And there are these 'modulus' with ISV (such as SAP) specific help:

Are you talking to a 'generic' HP salesperson, or someone in the SAP team?

Re: SAP DB+CI ACTIVE - STANDBY CLUSTER WITHOUT SGeSAP?

Yes, we are using Tru clusters, and we are moving to HP-UX. We are working with HP team. Due to budgeting and the desire to keep the cluster as simple as possible, we would like to know if we can do an ACTIVE to STANDBY cluster for SAP (DB+CI) by just using ServiceGuard. We are convinced that the SAP migration data & Apps can be done very fast as HP has teh toolsets to do the migration.

Re: SAP DB+CI ACTIVE - STANDBY CLUSTER WITHOUT SGeSAP?

Hi,

a) It is very much possible to implement DB+CI without the SGeSAP product.

b) With SGeSAP you life is very much simpler and stressfree, since this product was actively developed by the two companies for easy porting of SAP on HP's SG, so there are lot of things which are taken care of by the script.

BOTTOMLINE
If you are good with scripting and have a good SAP team which can provide you with a accurate working and requirements of SAP, then you can go ahead with planning the cluster without SGeSAP, but be ready for lot of hardships..

Re: SAP DB+CI ACTIVE - STANDBY CLUSTER WITHOUT SGeSAP?

Like most things in HP-UX, you could do this without the scripts.
It would mean you have to work out what to do, and if any issues were to ocur they are your responsibility as your own scripts and configuraion setuops are unsupported.
Using teh SGeSAP toolkit speeds up the implementation, and gives you support from HP.
The choice is yours.

Thanks.. we will take this into consideration. If SGeSAP does makeit easier to implement, I should question the high proposed implementaion charges from HP. Thanks all.

Thanks all...we'll have to look into comparitive costs of implementation for SAP clusters.
