Iam facing hanging problem with HP D class 9000 D270 server loaded HPUNIX 10. The server is hanging intermitantly and login prompt not coming on console aswell as terminals. Whenever server hangs it logs an error message in syslog.log tha error message i mentioned below.
SCSI: First Party detected bus hang lbolt:1175016, bus:0
SCSI: Resetting scsi lbolt:1165416,bus:0
LVM:PV 0 has been Returned to VG[1]
LVM:PV 0 has been Retrned to VG[0]

-----
ater some time server retunes to the normal position. I replaced the root disk the same problem repeats. Any one faced this type of problem? Whether it is due to onboard scsi controller problem? Please help me to solve this problem

Re: scsi resetting error

Server might be experiencing hardware problems. With bus 0. Try reseating all cables/connections. check for loose connections etc.

Re: scsi resetting error

Are you getting any error messages that have a "bdev" in them .. this may indicate the disk that is giving you the problem.

Please post output from these commands:

1) ll /dev/dsk
2) ioscan -fn
3) strings /etc/lvmtab

This will help us narrow things down.

Re: scsi resetting error

Hi,

This is a H/W problem.

It can be caused by the interface itself or by any other devices on the same chain .

pls check whether any tape drives are attached , usually they are the cause.

If problem continues recommend to log a call with HP.

Thanks,
BL.

Re: scsi resetting error

Hi,

I had the same error to yours and the cause was HDD.
This is highly a H/W problem, may be by cable connect or disk problem but you replaced a new disk and rain checked all connections so that you could fix this by installing patch PHKL_29049

hope this help your case,
