seeking tiff viewer

Im seeking a tiff viewer for HP-UX 10.20 which is small and fast. It should support zoom and rotation of the image perhaps but not neccessarily printing.

Also it is important that Tiff CCITT Group 4 is supportet.

I did a search on the porting center and tried the software i found. But without luck. eg: gview is to big and doesnt view my Tiff CCITT Group 4 files. The viewer integratet in the tiff-3.5 distribution doesnt support zoom and rotate. xv is shareware for which i don't have the money right now. Gimp is far to big and also doesn't support CCITT Group 4 files.

imageview from HP-UX 10.20 also doesn't support this Tiff CCITT Group 4 format.

Background for this request:

Our document management software supports the creation of tiff files (CCITT Group 4 as mentioned). The integrated viewer is slow, uncomfortable and unreliable. Thats why i am looking for a small tiff viewer, not an imagemanipulation or converter programm.

Hope someone has a tip for me.

Regards

Stefan

Re: seeking tiff viewer

Tony:

the viewer integrated in tiff-3.5.4 has no zoom or rotate funktion. As we are viewing DIN A0 (size E) Drawings we need the zoom funktion.

Thanks for your suggestion. Do you hav another tip for me?

Re: seeking tiff viewer

It may be worth doing a search on the HPUX Software Porting And Archive Centre

Re: seeking tiff viewer

The Porting Center is where i found the viewers i mentioned. In the mean time i figured that the tiff files i am using are not 100% tiff G4. And libtiff, which is used by most viewers, relies on 100% tiff spezifikatiion.

Re: seeking tiff viewer

Stefan,

Did you try "ImageMagick", also found on the porting center ? It's precompiled for HP-UX 11.00, but the source is also available.

Good luck!

Peter
If it works, don't touch it, but allways stay at least one step ahead of trouble.

Re: seeking tiff viewer

What about that classic of unix image programs "xv".

You can get that here

Never preceed any demonstration with anything more predictive than "watch this"

Re: seeking tiff viewer

This java library looks like to support the G4 tiff, and was tested on a 10.20.

I do not like java, but it might be the solution to your problem...

Have you looked atImageMagick

(I'm not sure it would count as small, though).

Re: seeking tiff viewer

Hi,

thanks to those new replies. Unfortunately the notification didn't work so it took some time to recognize this.

Thanks to Massimo. These links are pretty interesting.

ImageMagick was to big and to slow to start. As mentioned i was looking for a viewer not a manipulation programm.

In the mean time (note the original post was in 2000) we bought and installed SwiftView as a company license. Have a look at http://www.swiftview.com/sview1.htm. This is fast and easy to use and met our requirements.

Thanks for your tips
