semmns maximum value

Hi,

I have HP rp4440 server running hpux 11i version1 and i am trying to increase that value to 100000 and i am getting the following error.

The value specified for tunable parameter "semmns", "100000", │ │
││ │ evaluates to "100000" which is more than the maximum allowed value of │ │
││ │ "32767".

But HP docs mentioned like this.

NAME
semmns — number of System V IPC system-wide semaphores

VALUES

Failsafe
4096

Default
4096

Allowed values
Minimum: semmni

Maximum: 335534080

Please let me know if there any dependency values for semmns which are effecting increase of semmns.

Please advice.

Thanks and Regards
Venkat

Re: semmns maximum value

mine is set at smmin*2

So maybe try setting your smmni to 50000
Then set semmsn to (smmin*2)

Re: semmns maximum value

You must be reading docs for v2 or v3. v1's man page states:

NAME

semmns - number of System V IPC system-wide semaphores
VALUES

Failsafe

128
Default

128
Allowed values

Minimum: 2

Maximum: 32767

That's stock 11iv1, you can install PHKL_28703 which raises the limit to 1000000.

Re: semmns maximum value

semmns max value is 32,767 for HPUX 11i Version 1 and 335534080 is maximum value for Version2 and Version3.

We can increase value to 335534080 on version 1 by applying patch PHKL_28703

Please go through the description for the patch.
