Sending Text messages.

Sending Text messages.

Is there a way of sending text messages to a mobile phone from a UNIX server with a modem ?

We already us Telalert to send messages to pagers. Sending to a mobile would reduce the hardware which has to be carried for on-call.

Is there any free software to do this work ?

Re: Sending Text messages.

I would think that you should be able to do what you want via Telalert. It is a pretty flexible product. Have you contacted Telalert support to check on this functionality?

Re: Sending Text messages.

Hi,
If your servers have sendmail configured and a mail server which will forward/send email to the outside world you could use it to send email text messages to your phone/pager if your service supports it. We used to send email text messages to our skytel pagers and AT&T cell phones anytime a server event would happen.

Hope that helps give you ideas.

Re: Sending Text messages.

Hi

If your phone will accect EMail messages then mail to its EMail identity, but be aware that it may be a pseudo EMail and is in fact SMS (Short message system) which has a 162 chars limitation.

I Email my server state to my phone via this system and for each "EMail" I receive three SMS messages.
It is not pretty but it works.

Re: Sending Text messages.

I think you can still send it by telalert, although, if you wanna send it by email you should ask your mobile company for their email address.
In the end you should have something like this: @
Don't forget that you need configure your HP as a mail server.
