Re: server

How can we find out bootdisk? >>
IF you cannot login using the server via, telnet, you need attach Console to the server and get the console access,
look into console message .? what does it say,
I hope with-out the Console you can't bring up the Server,
or
point the server to alternative_boot_disk
Example:-
ISL>bo alt --> this try boot the server using alternative disk if your primary boot disk bad
Once server comes up
# lvlmboot -v -> list what are the bootable disk
Thanks,

Re: server
With out the console you can't select the alternate boot path.
If physically server is near by you the try to connect with MP Serial or Ethernet cable to connect the MP Console.

Re: server
right now you can't ping, telnet or whatever. we got that.
did the system crash and then not restart? was the system manually rebooted and failed?
the end result is you need either a MP console session (if available) or terminal connected direct to the console port.
from what your "senior" said, the primary boot disk had failure.
If it's mirrored (it is right?) and its done properly, you can boot from the mirror. the process is described above.
If it's not mirrored, you are looking at replacing the failed drive and installing the OS backup from an Ignite tape.
you might want to speak with your "senior" to determine what he/she wants done.
Barring that, you need to come up with a better discription of the issue.
At this point, you've not even said what state the system is in, only that you can't connect.

>> I asked my senior we don't have the console access.
(fine_ now we need attach a cosole "or" do you have "Serial Console cable" so that you can attache your Laptop, ..?
and mirrore disk also failed
how do you know ..? how did you find out .?
you said you d'not have console acess ..?
did you try booting from your mirrore disk..?
. So OS will install from another HP server.
We don't have any OS backup's.
you mean are you going by Ignite by using "Ignire Server" or using the Ignite tape of a smilar HPUX Server ..?
Is the correct procedure to install the OS from another HP server.<<
basically this Question .?
which procedure are you going follow .?
either Ignite_Server / using Ignite tape .?
Thanks,
Johnson

He told me there is no ignite tape. So in that server they install new version of HP. I want to know about first which type of backups we have. At what times we have to take the backups.

Re: server
>> OK , No problem,
I want to know about first which type of backups we have...?
Basics
1. Always perform OS backup Once a Month which is technically called Ignite Backup (make_tape_recovery) --> command to use perform the OS backup using tape-drive
(make_net_recovery ) --> comand to use perform OS_backup to Ignite server
2. Other backups refering to which not part of root File system , Example like vg01
(Application data)
you use HP -data proctector , or you use tar, cpio, fbackup ,
schedule your backup and slective file system
At what times we have to take the backups.
when you doing any kernal paremeter changes, better you perform "Once a month" so that we can avoid these kind of Sudden System CRASH"
Thanks,
Johnson

Solution1. when you do any Kernal _paremeter Changes
(for me its not "situations" Once a month OS' backup is better that you recently OS -backp copies) could avoid any sudden crash we can still resote the OS using the most recent Backup.
You mentioned you take the backup other than root. why?
I mean apart from Root File system,
What is the use of these backup?
These use of backups use full when your Application data "crash" or you Application team "doing" any Application patching they may request you backup Application file system also
Example :-
/dev/vg01/lvol13 6291456 4685976 1592984 75% /UAT2/oradata
the above "File system belongs to oracle" which not part Root file system.
recently there was a Oracle patching,
my DBA requested to perfrom Backup of the Oracle File system ,
Hope this make you better Understand
Thanks,
Johnson

Re: server
I understood. There is better to take OS backups monthly. and weekly we have to take all filesystems.
The OS backups where we store I mean in another server. somebody told me likethat. and filesystem backups we have to take in the tape or disk. what are the commands. we are using fbackup.

Re: server
You can store Ignite backup (OS) either in tape or remote server
# make_tape_recovery to store OS backup on tape
#make_net_recovery to store OS backup on your Ignite server
You can use tar/fbackup for Other filesystems, since you dont have any advanced backup software like dataprotector or veritas.

when this disk failed them we use mirrored.<<
if your "PRIMARY ROOT DISK FAILED"
yes you use to boot up the server "MIRROR DISK"
