ServiceGuard and OSI layer

We are considering to implement new network infrastructure in our company with routerswitches running in the layer 3 of the OSI model.

Which OSI layer does MC ServiceGuard support?

Re: ServiceGuard and OSI layer

Hi,

Serviceguard nodes have to be on same subnet so SG supports only Data link OSI layer.

Re: ServiceGuard and OSI layer

Hi,

Please let us know your requirement of clustering nodes. MC Serviceguard supports cluster nodes on same network, across metro cities or across continent.

It is costlier to implement with respect to distance of seperation of cluster nodes.

It is usual practise to keep things simple and redundant within the data link layer of same subnet.

Re: ServiceGuard and OSI layer

See page 136 in the Managing Serviceguard manual: http://docs.hp.com/en/B3936-90117/B3936-90117.pdf

Serviceguard communication relies on the exchange of DLPI (Data Link Provider Interface) traffic at the data link layer and the UDP/TCP (User Datagram Protocol/Transmission Control Protocol) traffic at the Transport layer between cluster nodes.
