ServiceGuard support for hp surestore disk system 2100

Hello,

I would like to know whether ServiceGuard can be run on the 2100 disk array. Some software told us that the disks used by the 2100 do not support ServiceGuard.

Thanks in advance,
Vince

Re: ServiceGuard support for hp surestore disk system 2100

Hi,

What would be the doubt if this is possible.
In my opinion if this array works with HP-UX why wouldn't it work with MC/SG !

Hello,

I share your same opinion, however this software told us that the disks are not supported.

Hi,

Is MC/SG mentioning that this array is not supported ?

Hi,

The software is one used to generate quotes, not MC/SG.

Hi,

I can not find anything about this software in relation with HP-UX.

You have any docs ?

Re: ServiceGuard support for hp surestore disk system 2100

Due to issues with the In-Line terminations for these disc subsystems, they ARE supported in an MC/ServiceGuard environment but ONLY if you do NOT use the ILT cables.
If you use this disc subsysystem in the cluster with the standard SCSI cables, you need to be aware that to make any changes on the bus will require that bus is put in a quiescent state, i.e. you will need to halt the package or even the node/cluster.

Hello Melvyn,

Thanks for your reply. Do you have any docs or links from which I can read further on this issue?

Re: ServiceGuard support for hp surestore disk system 2100

I am trying to find something on the outside for you, but here is the basic statement:

In an effort to create a solution to the ILT cable - DS2100 ??? SuperDome ??? HA
environment silent data corruption problem, a number of people from many
organizations across HP have come together to make the following support statements.
Although this issue came to light in SuperDome environments, this support statement
applies to all HP9000 ??? PCI platforms:

HP will not support the use of ILT cables in a HA environment with Ultra SCSI, except
when using an SC10 or an HVD-10 enclosure as a shared storage device. Note: the
SC10 and HVD-10 enclosures run at the slower Ultra SCSI speeds and do not exhibit the
data corruption problem when used in a HA environment.

The DS2100 will be supported in the following configurations:
- Single initiator configuration using standard SCSI cables on all systems.
- Single initiator configuration using 5 or 10 meter ILT SCSI cables on V-class and
SuperDome ONLY.
- Two initiator configurations using standard SCSI cables on all systems.
- HA configurations require two or four DS2100 enclosures across
two SCSI busses with LVM mirroring to achieve no single point
of failure. Only standard SCSI cables will be supported. An HA configuration
with the DS2100 will require quiencing of the SCSI bus prior to repairs to the DS2100
which will not effect application availability.

Please note that using standard SCSI cables versus using ILT cables in a HA
environment does not affect the functionality of the HA solution. The ILT cables provide a
simpler repair scenario over standard SCSI cables in such a situation. Standard SCSI
cables used in an appropriate HA configuration will meet the ???no single point of failure???
requirement.

Also note that there is support for MSCS cluster solutions using ILT cables and the
LP1000r and LP2000r net servers.

HP will support the use of ILT cables for all devices which were originally sold with ILT
cables except the DS2100 (except as noted above). This includes enclosures such as the
SC10, HVD10, HAAS (Jamaica) and 12H (Icicle). No new device will be certified for use
with ILT cables.

I hope that is ok
