Re: Serviceguard11.19 using EMS for disk monitoring

Hi raghu,

EMS works on a client server architecture with the underlying SNMP protocol making use of the MIB structure. To monitor EMS resources requires the understanding of the tree structure of EMS as ems can tell you about the load, pv status, lv status, amount of free space and so on. So, on the EMS tree it would be something like....

/vg/vgname/pv_pvlink/status/deviceName... U need to know this tree to work with EMS. The following manual below gives you an example in page 178 for the "status of NIC cards", make use of the tree appropriately.. This is also referred to as the "resource heirarchy".

Don't forget to assign points!

Why not just trust LVM monitoring and the syslog ?

You should have some monitoring tool monitoring the syslog. If a link or a disk fails it will be logged in the syslog.
