Setting up a printer in JetAdmin

Hi all,

I have a HP Laserjet 4100 printer that I want to use with my HP9000 server.

I am using HP-UX 11.00 and JetAdmin for Unix version D.03.15.

I downloaded a file from the HP website (http://www.hp.com/pond/modelscripts/index2.html) which gave me a shell archive named net_lj4100.sh

I ran this script as root and it gave the following output:

"x - 271.cfg [compressed]
x - 305.cfg [compressed]
x - installer [compressed]
x - net_lj4100 [compressed]
x - net_lj4100.1 [compressed]

The installation is now complete!"

So far, so good, I thought.

I ran JetAdmin and added the printer (JetDirect) hardware address and IP address to the BOOTP database.

The tests passed OK and the test print file printed.

However, when I try to add the printer to the LP Spooler (option 3 from the JetAdmin menu) I do not see the LaserJet 4100 in the list.

I tried selecting a LaserJet 4 (printer type 30 in my list) and changing the model script in the Additional Printer Configuration menu to net_lj4100.

When I press 0 to configure, I get the following errors:

"cp: cannot access /etc/lp/interface/lj4100: No such file or directory
..sed: Cannot find or open file /etc/lp/interface/model.orig/lj4100.
accept: destination "lj4100" non-existent
..enable: printer "lj4100" non-existent
..
Finished adding "lj4100" to the spooler."

... and my printer is not working.

If I set it up as a LaserJet 4 and accept the default model script net_lj4x, the printer works but prints everything TOO BIG so I lose the right side of a printed page.

Therefore, I assume that my problem is with the model script / printer type.

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,

Kevin

Re: Setting up a printer in JetAdmin

These model scripts are not for the older jetadmin product. They were intended to be installed with the hp jetdirect printer installer for unix software which replaced jetadmin.

If it's possible to take that model script and clean it up for use with jetadmin, I'm not sure how.

HPPI is available here

Re: Setting up a printer in JetAdmin

Hi,
I think your model scripts you have download are not in the good directory.
On the http://www.hp.com/pond/modelscripts/index2.html page you have a link to 'Setup,Install, Configure'. You can found some info.

Some of this links:

Good luck

Thanks for the replies. I used the newer JetDirect software. Job done.

Solution was to use JetDirect Printer Installer for Unix (HPPI).

Re: Setting up a printer in JetAdmin

run jetadmin
select 1
then select 3
give the printer name
then enter : 35
then enter 1
select queue name
then select 6
then select 5
and quit
and enter 0
then enter

now the printer & queue has been installed.
go /etc/lp/interface.
u can see here queue file.
