Setting up modem to dial out on PCI Mux
I have an Itanium server which has 2 x 8 port PCI Mux serial expander card. I am trying to set up a modem (Multitech 5600ZDXe) that is currently connected to the first port. I have used the pin settings off HP for the RJ45 - DB25 connector. Having no luck though. Keep receiving an 'unable to connect to modem' error in the application.
Can someone clarify if I require a getty to be running on the port it is connected to? It is required for polling other branches so dials out only.
I was under the impression that it was connected to /dev/tty2a1 (see ioscan below).

Re: Setting up modem to dial out on PCI Mux
only in case of dial-in.
Just ensure you are using correct device file for the port where the modem is connected.
Select the appropriate communication parameters like speed , flow control etc.
Note the Modem indications when you power it on connected and when you are trying to access it through application. Check for DTR , maybe in application the DTR signle is specifically raised which requires DTR should not be enabled in the modem.
Likewise ensure the required settings in modem ( through AT commands ) , serial port settings, and application settings for communication to take place.

Re: Setting up modem to dial out on PCI Mux
I wouldn't trust anything that works on hp1's EISA mux to necessarily work on anything else! Just glad we were able to change all those adapters over in time.
And yep - the Guiness on Friday night was VERY good ... but the flight back was absolutely full of screaming kids - serves me right for picking a flight that only cost 3 quid!
