SGeRAC CFS Filesystem Migration required
Hi All,
I'm looking for scenario's to migrate data from HP xp1024 to a EMC storage.
scenario:
We are migrating a mission critical HP UX cluster SGeRAC using CFS (10 Volumes) from XP1024 storage to EMC storage.
Now the help required is - Steps that we should take to migrate CFS in cluster on existing storage to new storage. If someone has done this exercise, please share your experiences.
Any kind of help would be highly appreciated.
If any further information is required; please let me know.
Best Regards

Re: SGeRAC CFS Filesystem Migration required
Shalom,
Your best supported option is to do a cold database backup using Oracle utilities and then restore the data to the new disk area after completely set up.
If you are not using raw disk access (it appears not) then with the database down you can simply copy the database files across the network.
I know of know SAN based method to migrate the data more quickly.

Re: SGeRAC CFS Filesystem Migration required
Hi Steven,
thanks for your reply.
can you please elaborate more if we are using CFS, and to avoid downtime,in fact.
or
preparation of CFS on EMC Storage with minimum downtime, and possibility of online migration.

Re: SGeRAC CFS Filesystem Migration required
Hi Rehmat,
I am about to go through a similar exercise migrating from EVA to EMC and am planning to use mirroring to migrate the CFS disk groups from the EVA storage to the EMC storage.
I've already done this for quite a few LVM volume groups and it was completely transparent to the apps/users and did not require any downtme. I simply added a mirror to the LVM volume group using a LUN presented from the EMC storage and once the mirroring was complete I removed the LUN presented from the EVA storage array from the LVM volume group.

Re: SGeRAC CFS Filesystem Migration required
Hi Kathy,
Thanks for your reply.
I have done the same excercise yesterday for LVM volumes and it worked perfectly. But i have few systems who are using SGeRAC with CFS. I dont have any idea for CFS migration. Kindly help.

Re: SGeRAC CFS Filesystem Migration required
Hi Rehmat,
I won't be in a position to test this migration on my own system for at least a few weeks but my plan is to follow the same approach I took with the LVM and use VxVM mirroring.
I've found a 'Best Practices' white paper that describes configuring VxVM/CVM mirroring across two different arrays on HP-UX. Even though it relates to Extended Distance Clusters I'm going to use it as a starting point for working out what to do.
HP Serviceguard Extended Distance Cluster (EDC) with VxVM/CVM mirroring on HP-UX - Best practices
Hope this helps,
Kathy
