Hello Randy,
SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) exists in the versions:
- v1 (oldest, universally available, insecure)
- v2 (old, alomst never available, more secure)
- v2C (slightly younger, insecure, available)
- v3 (not yet finished, secure)
On HP-UX the SNMP-agents do *speak* SNMPv1 and SNMPv2C, and there is an add-on tool for NNM (Network Node Manager) to make it *speak* SNMPv3.
SMI (Structure of Management Information) is something that every SNMPagent should understand (and does)!
