SSH cannot read passphrase

Hi,

I'm using openssh on ux 11.0. I get this error if I attempt to ssh to another machine as user "retail", but not as "root"

eg:
retail: ssh otherm
You have no controlling tty. Cannot read passphrase.

root: ssh -l retail otherm
retail@otherm's password:

I also noticed that when I logon as retail from the console, I get the following message:
ttytype: couldn't open /dev/tty for reading
Cannot open /dev/tty read/write to ask. Quitting

Not sure that they're related.

Any thoughts?

Re: SSH cannot read passphrase

Hi,
What is the permissions of /dev/tty?
Should be readable and writable by all.
