sshd not started

I install openssh depot and all dependences to hp 11i,and have use ssh-genkey to produce key well.
but when I run sshd ,no error message ,but
the daemon sshd no started

what else I need to do

Verify the location of the HostKey; /usr/local/etc?

Then check the pathway in the sshd_config file:

HostKey /usr/local/etc/ssh_host_key
HostKey /usr/local/etc/ssh_host_rsa_key
HostKey /usr/local/etc/ssh_host_dsa_key

Did you run the sshd as root ?

ps -ef | grep sshd

Just to be sure.

as root
/sbin/init.d/secsh start

error messages should be displayed.

you may need to edit the secsh script to output sterr to a file so you get diagnostics.

My best guess, its not properly installed.

start sshd from command prompt. /opt/openssh/sbin/sshd -f /opt/etc/sshd_config.

It should give error message if can't start it.

Have you created a "sshd" user. In the later versions you need this for the daemon to start?

You should also configure syslog so that it traps all the ssh error messages.
