starting Xvfb during reboot

I am trying to use a rc script to start Xvfb. It issues the following command:
/usr/bin/X11/Xvfb :5 -screen 0 800x600x12 -pn -fp /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc &

If I run the rc script manually it works fine. If I reboot the system the Xvfb process does not start. There are no errors.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Re: starting Xvfb during reboot

Use the scripts listed in this post ? -> http://forums.itrc.hp.com/cm/QuestionAnswer/1,,0x2479402f24d5d61190050090279cd0f9,00.html

Do these work OK ?

At a guess it maybe the command line options you've added .... try striping them out or using an appropriately name X5screens file : sysntax in GAG.html or probably in X0screens file.

Re: starting Xvfb during reboot

hi,

make sure you have the startup environment setup well!

i.e.
a. /etc/rc.config.d/xvfb
b. /sbin/init.d/xvfb
c. /rc2.d/K050.xvfb
d. /rc3.d/S950.xvfb
(c and d linked to /sbin/init.d/xvfb)

Attached a configuration file that will help you start it at :10

hope this helps!

Re: starting Xvfb during reboot

When you install Xvfb these files should have been created.

a. /etc/rc.config.d/xvfb
b. /sbin/init.d/xvfb
c. /rc2.d/K050.xvfb
d. /rc3.d/S950.xvfb
(c and d linked to /sbin/init.d/xvfb)

If they are not there, then simply reinstall xvfb.

Here is a link.

http://www1.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en_US&docId=200000066910631

That doc contains the PATCH that you can swinstall to properly install Xvfb

File a above lets you change the command line options for the tool.

If you are using this as many do to get Oracle Reports to stop dissing you with a REP-3000 message, the attached copy of file a might be useful to you.

Good Luck.
