stop boot flag ?

I have an HP-UX 11.00 workstation which
will not boot. It says that the "stop boot
flag" has been set, so I cannot even boot
from the CD to try recovery. What might
cause this, and how can I fix it?

Thanks,
Kathryn

Re: stop boot flag ?

Stop Boot Flag Set - System Cannot Boot
-------------------------------------------------------------------

What to do when you are trying to boot up
and you get the following message:

" Stop boot flag set - system cannot boot".

This is an indication that the Processor Dependent Code (PDC) was
unable to complete the boot process. It discovered a condition with
the system and thus aborted the boot process by setting the "Stop
Boot " flag. Unfortunately, the system was in a state that it was
unable to provide any additional information as to what the problem
is.

Usually this problem is caused by a hardware misconfiguration. If
you have added any hardware or made any changes to your system,
check your configuration settings and ensure that everything is
configured correctly. Refer to the documentation that was provided
with your new hardware for any assistance.

Ensure that if you added any memory, you followed the memory
configuration rules. See the "X-Class System Memory Upgrade Guide,
p/n A3262-90003" for more information.

Also, if you are using an EISA adapter, remember that EISA is not
supported in HPUX 11.0 64-bit mode. However, it is supported in
32-bit mode.

If you have checked all your configurations and they are correct,
then it is very likely that the problem is due to a hardware
failure. Contact your local HP Service Representative for
assistance.

Re: stop boot flag ?

It appeared to be some kind of transient hardware problem or misconfiguration. Turning off fastboot made the machine reexamine the system, and solved this problem.

Thanks so much!
