Surestore E DLT: I can see the robotic controller but not the tape drive
When attempting to do a back on my L class server running 11.00, I'm getting errors back that /dev/rmt/0m isn't a valid output file. When I did a ioscan -fn (see attached) I see that the tape drive isn't being claimed. In looking at my kernel, I'm not sure why this is as stape and sctl both show up as being loaded. Can someone perhaps show me the error of my ways?
Thanks in advance,
Joe Robinson

Re: Surestore E DLT: I can see the robotic controller but not the tape drive
Hi,
You need to have the robotics of your tape
library configured in the kernel. Have a
look at the attached document which tells
you have to do it. For memory the model
that you have requires the 'schgr' driver
in the kernel. When creating a device to
drive the actual robotics, you need to set
it as 'sctl'.
The document should be all you need!

Re: Surestore E DLT: I can see the robotic controller but not the tape drive
Hi Joe,
First enable the "schgr" driver in the kernel. This will allow the system to see the robot on the library. Then use the procedure posted by michael to move the dlt from the slot to the library drive and then you can use the tar/cpio/fbackup command to write to the dlt. It would be a good idea to use backup applications like omniback, veritas netbackup etc for your backup purpose. The library is much better used if you use some backup application like the one mentioned.
Hope this helps.
