SSH and password ageing/forced change

Do password ageing and forced password changes work on a non-trusted system where the only login mechanism allowed is SSH??

I've attempted using passwd -f to force an immediate change on the next login, yet I can login without being required to change my password.

I'm currently running openSSH 3.0.2p1 depot downloaded from the HP-UX depot site: http://hpux.cs.utah.edu

Should I compile my own copy straight from the source code? Is there a configuration switch that needs to be used if compiling directly from the source?
