Surestore SC 10 Hard Disk array

What would cause the Hard Disk Array to start beeping - ( both the green and amber lights are on ). This happened shortly after the IP address was changed and changed back to its original state. Once the SC10 starts beeping, is there any way of finding out what caused it and turn it off without rebooting the server.
We are running HP -UX 11.0 ( November 1999 release) and installed critical patches till March 2000. The SC10 is connected via to two SCSI connectors - one used as a primary path and other as a secondary. Our server is an L2000, 4 440Mhz CPU's and 4GByte of memory.

Thanks
Gerhard

Re: Surestore SC 10 Hard Disk array

you may check the 2 BCC configuration setting first. they are small dip switches on the back.

Good luck!

Re: Surestore SC 10 Hard Disk array

I don't think the problem lies therein. All the dip switches are set to one and the ID dials are set to 0 and 1. Ternimators are in place (one pre BCC).
Thanks for your reply

Re: Surestore SC 10 Hard Disk array

Gerhard,
The following reasons cause the system to set the amber LED:
- A component failed
- Temperature or voltage is out of the normal range

Combined with an audio alarm does it point to the BCCs. Is one of the fault LED of the BCC flashing?

In your case are the rotary switches set to different positions. But? they both have to be set to 0
Set both rotary switches to 0, power cycle the SC10 and reboot the system.

Re: Surestore SC 10 Hard Disk array

No the light(s) were not flashing - constantly on. Based on the information I had at the time I set the dials to different values to give the BCC different ID's. This was done at the time of installation when the SC10 would not respond at all. However the problem appeared to have been "fixed" by changing one of the dials and placing the SCSI controllers in the PDC in the first place. So I don't know which of the above actions "fixed " the problem ( Should never change two things at once when trying to find the cause of the problem :) ). Is this related to the other SCSI ID and SC10 question I posted ? What do these dials really do ?

Thanks once again
Gerhard

Gerhard,

You will find the SC10 User and Service Guide at the following URL (4.6 MB PDF file)
http://www.hp.com/essd/download/sc10_user.pdf

The rotary switch does no good for you on a SC10. But nevertheless both switches must set to 0. If they are set different, will box regret to work. The IDs of the BCCs are fixed set. (The switch makes sense on the LCC of a FC10)
