Re: swap error

The error message gives you all the information needed. You need to build a new kernel with maxswapchunks increased by at least 136 although I would add considerably more so that if you need to add addional swap in the future no rebbot will then be required.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: swap error

Hi,

You need to increase the tunable parameter maxswapchunks by 136.

May I know your HP-UX version ? Cause on HP-UX 10.20 & 11.00 the issue can be solved by apply the patches below :

PHKL_17335
series 800, HP-UX 10.20

PHKL_17334
series 700, HP-UX 10.20

PHKL_22771
series 700_800, HP-UX 11.00

For more details about 'maxswapchunks', check the url below :
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/939/KCParms/KCparam.MaxSwapChunks.html

Hope this information can help you.

Cheers,

Re: swap error

Hi Mukkala,

Try to increase your maxswapchunks first by 136 or more.

Check the details of the maxswapchunks (see the url on my prev. post).

Hope the information can help you.

Re: swap error

with out changing the tunable parameters

adding the swap f.s/swap file, i can resolve this problem.

Re: swap error

Hi,

I would recommend you to increase maxswapchunks considerably better than 136 rather than increasing it to just 136. This will help u in adding more swap space in the future if required, without taking a reboot. Now u may have to reboot the system after tuning this parameter. Plan for a reboot before modifying the parameter. Don't forget to take a copy of the current kernel before changing the parameter.

Sunil

Re: swap error

You can add the additional swap space (or even several additional swap spaces); however, the kernel will not be able to address (ou utilize) the additional swap space until maxswapchunks is increased. Of course, the better question to ask is "do you actually need more swap space?".
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: swap error

now the server is Red light indication.

due to this problem it's showing red light, it may cause any other hardware fault?

Re: swap error

Hi,

The red light will never go on because of this. Find out the cause of the red light seperately by looking at GSP/MP logs.

Also this error is just a message that you can not use this particular swap space. If there are other swap spaces alongwith this, they are all functional and importantly you might be allready fine without this space. Find swap utilization by
#swapinfo -atm
