Swapping of two systems
I intend swapping the two systems around as the 8400 is running outta steam and the 8420 has tons of capacity to spare. The app on the 8420 can easily be accommodated by the 8400, with the 8420 being more than capable of housing the app of the 8400.
Normally I would use ignite_rocovery and 'rebuild' the boxes. Would it not be possible, and a lot quicker to just swap the internal drives, boot to single user mode and do your modifications? HP will take care of the ICOD issues.
Both systems run HP-UX11i, same patch versions, both attached to the same san, and EVA8000.
The san section I have covered all I need to know is: will the swap of internal drives work??
Loophole and pitfalls?? Things to watch out for??
Thanks

Re: Swapping of two systems
My first thought is that it sounds like it ought to work. One thing to look out for would be device addressing of your peripherals - it's unlikely that both boxes are identical in this area.

Re: Swapping of two systems
I think the ignite route is a lot safer due to the ICOD and drive path issues. Because of drive paths and such, the disk swap might end up being more work.
Either approach is given enough work likely to suceed as these systems are similar and use the same drives.

Re: Swapping of two systems
The ICOD issue will still be there with the ignite route. Tried and tested.
