Swapping system disks

I have a C360 and a C240. Is it possible to take the system disk from the C240 and swap it with the disk from the C360 and have the both machines operate without a problem?

Re: Swapping system disks

Tim,

I think it might be possible. The systems use the same drives - part numbers are identical. It would depend on what peripherals were attached. If there aren't any, then yes it will probably work (I think).

Re: Swapping system disks

there should be no problem.. once lan instances and external devices remain at the same instance number.. in most cases even this won't cause critical errors.
It works for me (tm)

Re: Swapping system disks

Tim,

This would work if & only if both systems had the same devices at the same HW addresses.
Especially problematic would be the disk drives. If their HW addresses were different, it wouldn't even boot.
So if you plan to do this thoroughly compare full ioscan outputs from these systems.

Re: Swapping system disks

Hi,
It is possible only if the pheriperals which are connected on both the servers are same.
If there is a CDROM/DAT/DLT difference is there when u start with the other disk the OS will include the device files. These devices doesn't make any difference unless you didn't specified any cronjobs earlier with those dat drive.

Re: Swapping system disks

Wow, such quick responses. Thanks all! I've compared ioscan outputs on both machines. The only differences that I see are the target IDs of secondary disks and the C240 has a tape drive. The tape drive will probably go with the disks so it shouldn't cause a problem.

Thanks again!
