Re: SWAT does not work after installing SAMBA 3.0.2

Hallo Jo

I think it´s a problem with inetd.
Have a look at the file /etc/inetd.conf.
Is there a line for swat, also in /etc/services. If so, restart the inetd deamon. Use " inetd -k " to kill the deamon compledly. Then restart it with " /usr/sbin/inetd ".
Then try swat again. I think it tehn will work.

Best regards

This sounds more like you need a new version of SWAT to match the new version of Samba. I'm not sure about HP-UX, but in Linux they're separate packages.

There is a clue in that the error message says refer to the Samba HOWTO. If it isn't installed on your disk try looking at http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/

Re: SWAT does not work after installing SAMBA 3.0.2

I would swremove CIFS, then check to make sure swat is not in inetd.conf - if it is - you need to remove swat - from there as well as system - maybe you have an old version (of samba) still installed?

Once that is done - re-install CIFS...

Re: SWAT does not work after installing SAMBA 3.0.2

Unless you get SAMBA to work, SWAT will not work. Once you successfully start samba, check /etc/services, /etc/inetd.conf for swat entries.
