swcopy analysis question

Hi,

I am copying a patch (PHKL_29434) to a depot for installation on a couple of HP-UX 11.0 workstations, and I am getting a number of errors similar to the following in the analysis log:

The prerequisite "PHKL_18543.CORE2-KRN,fa=HP-UX_B.11.00_32"
for fileset "PHKL_28766.CORE2-KRN,r=1.0" cannot be
successfully resolved.
ERROR: The dependencies for fileset "PHKL_28766.CORE2-KRN,r=1.0"
cannot be resolved (see previous lines).
You must resolve the above dependencies before operating on
this fileset or change the "enforce_dependencies" option to
"false".

However, upon running "swlist -l fileset | grep 18543" I get something that seems to indicate that the patch indeed is already there (on the target system containing the depot):

swlist -l fileset | grep 18543
# PHKL_18543 1.0 PM/VM/UFS/async/scsi/io/DMAPI/JFS/perf patch
PHKL_18543.C-INC 1.0 ProgSupport.C-INC
PHKL_18543.CORE-KRN 1.0 OS-Core.CORE-KRN
PHKL_18543.CORE2-KRN 1.0 OS-Core.CORE2-KRN
PHKL_18543.KERN2-RUN 1.0 OS-Core.KERN2-RUN
PHKL_18543.VXFS-BASE-KRN 1.0 JournalFS.VXFS-BASE-KRN
PHKL_18543.VXFS-PRG 1.0 JournalFS.VXFS-PRG

So I am confused. Can I load the new patch anyway?

Thanks for any help,
Gus

Re: swcopy analysis question

Gus,

Swcopy only checks the depot you are copying into for dependencies. This error can safely be ignored and will be successfully resolved when you swinstall onto the system. You may have to change the "enforce_dependencies" option to
"false" in order to complete the copy.

Re: swcopy analysis question

Hi Gus:

Patch dependency analyzis can be deferred during a 'swcopy' operation if you choose, and it is often convenient to do so. Simply add:

-x enforce_dependencies=false

...to you command options. During the 'swinstall' be sure that this option is set true to perform the proper analysis.

Re: swcopy analysis question

That is fairly typical for swcopy. Often the box where the depot is located will not have the patch installed; it may not even be applicable to that particular box so turn off the "Enforce Dependecies" for the swcopy operation. Swinstall will still check for dependencies (unless you override it --- and you should not in this case) when the patch is actually installed.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: swcopy analysis question

If the patch requiers PHKL_18543 you can proceed with the install.

Under NO circumstances, should you re-install PHKL_18543 or add it to the patch depot.

This is the LITS(Line in the Sand) patch and re-installation will harm your system.

I call it the patch of sleepless nights because it took months to overcome the ramifications of my stupidly re-installing it.

Re: swcopy analysis question

Just a comment...This forum rules! Is there anywhere else in the world where a person can be totally stumped, submit a question, go get a cup of coffee, and come back to have the answer right there on the screen? I don't think so.

Thanks for the help, and I'll continue to read subsequent replies.
