Syslog Message
I have 2 HP9000 and last Friday (27th), they both started reporting in the syslog.log at the same time. The message is:
telnetd[6064]: getpid : peer died: No such file or direc
tory.
The servers seem to be working fine but I can't work out what is wrong and they are still logging
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Syslog Message
Even it could be intermittent network problems or sessions getting timed out

Re: Syslog Message
Are U able to do telnet to that server now? If yes, check up ur networking equipments like hub, switch, router, cable ..etc for intermittent problem. Wait one or two days and observ for the same error. If no error, ignore it. If still coming this error, one or more of ur networking equipment may have intermittent problem.
If it is not at all pinging or telnetting then some of the equipment is deid on the way, or somebody change network configuration on that box. check up
Best of luck

Re: Syslog Message
This is a normal message, which occurs when a user "Drops" a telnet connection as opposed to logging out correctly.
The messages are the system telling you that it has tidied up after then.
Either educate your users to logout correctly of ignore them.

Re: Syslog Message
One of my colleagues(?) implemented some new network monitering software last Friday and he had it set to Telnet my servers instead of just ping.
Thanks again for your help
