Is there any way to find the serial number of an HP over the network?

Re: System Administration

Nope....you gotta do the manual thing and open the door and write it down.
I think they did this so we would always have the job security of having to walk down the hall to the computer room and find it...

Re: System Administration

I suppose all you will get is:
uname -i
Display the machine identification number (or the node name, if the machine identification number cannot be determined).
The serial number is writen on the box...

Re: System Administration

You can indeed see the systems serial number online using ignites print_manifest command - but it only works on new servers, ie. L class, N class, not sure but probably also R, A class and possibly V class.

Only the older servers will you have to find it on the outside of the server.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: System Administration

If you have a system which does not support FRU IDs (currently every system except the N- and L-Class) take a look into the predictive configuration. The serial no. should be entered there.
On a V2500/V2600 you can execute on the Teststation the command jf-ccmd_info
There is no good troubleshooting with bad data
