uname -i
Display the machine identification number (or the node name, if the machine identification number cannot be determined).
The serial number is writen on the box...

You can indeed see the systems serial number online using ignites print_manifest command - but it only works on new servers, ie. L class, N class, not sure but probably also R, A class and possibly V class.
Only the older servers will you have to find it on the outside of the server.
