System boot failure - machine down

I have recently mirrored the / disk following procedures posted on this and the lvm forum.

This morning, all went wonky and I could not telnet in any more.

I have hard booted the machine and it booted to the ISL prompt due to it not being able to locate the /etc/init file and it can not find the /stand/vmunix or vmunix file.

Boot to the ISl prompt, and do a search for boot devices. Double check your boot disk address. Also, I hope you did a make_recovery tape. If so, and you can't boot from any of the found boot devices, then boot from your tape device (your make_recovery tape).

Hi Nick,

That really sucks..

Like harry told you try finding boot devices from ISL:
(sea ipl)
If you are not able to find any:

1. Try fixing it with a resque disk.
2. Try reinstalling with make_recovery.

Good luck,

Ni Nick:

It sounds as though /stand was not mirrored.
If you did this right (as assuming hot-plug drives), your machine should have stayed up and you should have been about to replace a failed boot disk without even shutting down.

I trust you have a make_recovery tape.

Good luck, Clay
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
