system clock delay seriously

dear all,
i've got a system clock problem. the system time delay about one hour a week, which makes the applications unusable. i have try to change the system time using date, but the delay remains the same. is there any problem with the system hardware? which part of the system is relative with the system time?

thanks a lot

Hi,

Have you enabled a ntpd on your system and yyour system receive time clock from ntp server?

see /etc/ntp.conf file.

Re: system clock delay seriously

I'm not certain what you mean about a delay. Do you mean that the time is constantly slowing down? When you say you changed the time with the date command, did the time not change? Or do you mean that time is OK for a while and then slows down? Losing an hour a week is quite bad and means the processor probably needs changing.

NOTE: If you change the time with date and in another application or user login, the time off by an hour, then you probably have different timezones for each user. That is totally different than a clock that is slowing down.

Re: system clock delay seriously

thank you for you reply,
yes, the time is slowing down in the system, and i did not configured an ntp. is there any hardware problem the lead to this situation?

thanks a lot

Re: system clock delay seriously

When you ask a hardware-related question and don't bother to identify the hardware then it's difficult to help. There have been a few cases with large system-clock drifts that were corrected by a firmware update but its more likely that you will need a systemboard replacement.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: system clock delay seriously

hey guys,
i've found that the system date is now slowing down but fasten, but the GSP date seems ok. all the hardware light is ok, and there is no alert in syslog.log or event.log. by the way, it is a superdome, not configuring ntp. will it be a problem of the UGUY? what is the product part number of the UGUY?

thanks a lot
