Re: system error mesage
The message is because of a missing dependency or file .
In my case it was because I had accidentally screwed up links between /var and /usr .
This is going to be site specific since you may not have he same links that I have.
Question at this point is although you have no boot prompt ... is the system in fact up ???
If it is and you can access from some place try a restore from tape .... otherwise you are going to have the joy of booting from the maintenance menu ... something that generally throws me for a loop.

Re: system error mesage
No, the system is not up. How do I get to maintenance prompt. I am considering reloading OS from CD's? Any ideas?
Thanks,
John

Re: system error mesage
When you system begins to boot ... you should get a message
to the effect of srting autoboot process ....
You have 10 seconds to reply .... pressing any key should get you to the configuration menu ...
Then there is an option to search for boot paths .... things get vague here because of diferent options .... you can boot form CD / tape / or an alternate kernal .
The knowledge tree has a couple of different docs .... you might try this one first ...
It puts you in single user mode .... hopefully from there you cna restore your file structure ...
There are a couple of other docs ... but looks like I cab only attach one
to the effect of srting autoboot process ....
