System fails to boot

I have an old ( unsupported now) HP 712/60, which fails to boot with the following messgate
" Failed to initialize a keyboard - System Halted"
It suggest to press < ESCAPE > to stop the boot process but it does not work.
I renoved the disk power supply as suggested in document id A4173537 but still get the same message.
The keyboard is fine as it works on another workstation of the same type.
Is there anybody out there who may have a clue as to what I can do ??
Bosses don't undestand..HP does

Re: System fails to boot

Try plugging in a laptop or a PC with a null modem serial cable to the serial port on the 712 and fire up hyperterminal - with the disk disconnected in the 712 you should be able to use this as a console. Either that or your keyboard port is broken.
Im from Palmerston North, New Zealand, but somehow ended up in London...

Re: System fails to boot

Have you also verified that the mouse is ok? Please change keyboard and mouse by known fine working ones, and which are realy supported by HP.

Re: System fails to boot

Is there such a thing as an HP uniquie PS/2 keyboard? I can't just plug in a DELL keyboard?

I'm having the same problem here with my HP-UX in Stuck mode. But, the funny thing it's been working for the past year. Now, all of a sudden it doesn't work.

The only change, was an office move.

Re: System fails to boot

I did some research and found this suggestion based on an identical situation you are seeing....

The first message "failed to initialize a keyboard"
SYSTEM HALTED
occurs on a normal 712 when the keyboard is not plugged in and
the mouse can be plugged in or removed with no change.

The second message could occur with a marginal keyboard/mouse device
or a problem with the PS2 control on the 712 processor.

I would recommend replacing the keyboard/mouse with known good
parts first and if the error persists, then replace the processor.
Verify if the customer is using HP supported Keyboard/mouse products
or some non-HP products.
